Merrillville, Indiana (August 28, 2013) On August 15th, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) announced that the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) 3.0 would be released in early November and ultimately become effective on January 1st of 2014.

Based on early information, the new standard will focus on making PCI-DSS compliance a continuous process rather than a one-time “check box marking” exercise. CimTrak is trusted by organizations worldwide that rely on it to ensure their PCI-DSS compliance and protect valuable cardholder data. “Keeping organizations secure between their PCI-DSS vulnerability scans and audits is what the CimTrak integrity monitoring solution assists them with every day,” stated Robert E. Johnson III, president, and CEO of Cimcor, the company behind CimTrak. “Many changes can happen very quickly in a PCI environment. Being able to detect and respond quickly to these changes can mean the difference between a data breach occurring and a data breach not occurring.”

The PCI Security Standards Council in their August 15th press release about the new standard specifically mentioned that one of the key drivers for PCI-DSS version 3.0 is “slow detection in response to malware and other threats.” CimTrak provides integrity monitoring which can quickly detect changes to files, Registry keys, network device configurations, database schemas, VMware ESXi host settings, and more. These changes can be accidental, or even malicious, such as changes caused by a hacker or from a zero-day attack.
